I used to be an email copywriter. So seducing clients with a series of emails to get them to buy, was and is still one of my specialties. However, as a freelance email copywriter with a full-time job, it is sometimes not easy to commit to finding regular work.
However, thanks to a Copywriting Course called the Filthy Rich Writer, I was able to learn how to use LivingSocial (now Wowcher) to reach out to potential email customers.
What is Wowcher?

If you do not already know, Livingsocial is a popular e-commerce marketplace that provides digital shopping vouchers. Just like Groupon, these vouchers or coupons help you save lots of money when shopping in online stores.
On Livingsocial, you can find many deals and discount codes for several categories.
These categories range anywhere from local deals in your area, hotels, jewellery, fitness and travel to discount codes for airlines, TV packages and clothing shops.
I have used Livingsocial vouchers for various gift purchases over the years.
So why did I use Wowcher to Find Copywriting Clients?
As I mentioned earlier, it is not easy for freelance copywriters to find work, especially with the power and convenience of AI tools today. Typically, you will carry out research on prospective clients, get personal email contacts and send cold emails to them.
This can be a tough process. But overtime, you learn various techniues that would suit various clients. And that way, the process of finding copywriting clients becomes a little easier.
The problem here, however, is that a vast majority of prospective ‘cold clients‘ are not in need of your services, since they are not running any marketing campaigns at that time.
Also, some of them already have capable internal digital marketing teams that already market their products and/or services.
As a result, freelance copywriters handle several rejections as part of the job.
However, LivingSocial is different because these are ‘Warm‘ Clients.
Think about it.
When a client is offering discounts and advertising their services on Wowcher, this usually means that something isn’t working for them and that is why they are actively seeking to make more sales.
- These sellers have a clear need for customers, so that makes them more likely to be open to listen to someone who might provide a solution for them.
Hence the term, ‘warm clients‘.
Reaching out to potential clients that have shown that they are already taking active steps to increase business, is obviously a smarter, better move than cold calling or emailing.
So what is the Procedure?
It’s rather simple.
1. Go to your local Wowcher website.
2. Unlike Groupon, Wowcher only has categories and no other filters. So simply select a category and then scroll through the products and/or services you like.
3. Select your preferred product or service and read the ‘Highlights‘ & ‘Full Details‘ to find the company name.
4. Search the company’s social media to get a phone or email contact. The more personalised the email is, the better.
5. Add the details to an Excel Spreadsheet. And then repeat the process above until you have a list of emails you’re satisfied with.
6. Email them and follow uo if necessary.
My results from the above were as follows:
I witnessed a 40% increase in the email opens of my warm clients alone, compared to my cold clients.
And in my first Wowcher email campaign, I followed the exact steps above and was able to land 1 client meeting after only reaching out to only 10 prospects! All within 4 days.
This was a huge leap for me, considering I normally send more than 100 cold emails before landing a concrete meeting with various low and high ticket clients.
If this worked for me at the time, I believe that it could work for you too if you’re looking to land copywriting clients. So why don’t you visit the Wowcher website in your region today and start reaching out to businesses!
Good luck!
